Jesse And The Hoggs Are Back With Brand New Release - Band Blurb

With nearly a couple decades under their belt buckles, Jesse And The Hoggs switched from covers to originals, about midway through their run. Their recent full length LP, Get Hammered, is 13 tracks of inanity, love and food. Formed and based in Texas, Jesse And The Hoggs is a family affair, consisting of a squadron of cousins. Their sound has been deemed as Cow Punk, and though that may initially garner some chuckles, this genre may have more legs to it than most would predict. Jesse And The Hoggs can certainly lay claim to being the pioneers of Cow Punk.

“She’s Done Gone To The Gittin Place” is the obligatory, cheating spouse song. It’s ironically got a bit less twang than other tracks on the record, and has an almost pop style presentation. The chorus is actually a bit reminiscent of Escape Club’s, “Wild Wild West,” funny enough. The delivery is dripping with enthusiasm, and the band really throws themselves into the performance. “She’s Done Gone To The Gittin” place is likely to be a crowd favorite.

“Santa’s Got A Bag Of Coal For You,” is a karmic flavored tale of loaning a friend, some money. Of course, the friend under scrutiny, doesn’t repay the money, and Jesse And The Band make a strong prediction for their holiday experience. Jesse And The Hoggs are great at telling a fully fleshed story, in the context of a two minute song. It’s not easy to do, and the band deserves to be recognized for such compositional agility. This one, fittingly closes the album on a fun, lighthearted note.

“Wait A Minute” is poised to become the flatulence anthem of a new generation. This is the type of song that identifies as a guilty pleasure, as you won’t want to laugh, but that will be an exercise in futility. Little can prepare you for the outrageousness of this one, as Jesse And The Hoggs go all in on a subject that rarely and thankfully so, finds its way into song. Nonetheless, this is as well put together as such a juvenile piece can be. “Wait A Minute” is the song from Get Hammered that you will tell your friends about, if for no other reason, than to see their reaction.

All things considered, Get Hammered might be exactly the type of irreverent album we could all use at least a dosage of, at this point. Coming off the terror of a global pandemic, and an obstreperous period in American history, it might be a good idea to laugh a little. This record represents a very specific, but also well represented aspect of American Culture, and instead of marginalizing and scrutinizing its tendencies, maybe we can just have fun.
